Celebrating 25 Years

Guayakí Yerba Mate’s
2021 Impact Report recounts the progress made during the year, celebrates our 25th Anniversary, and offers a glimpse into Guayakí’s future.

2021 Impact Assessment

The material topics covered in this Impact Report are based on our 2021 B Impact Assessment and the results of our most recent materiality study conducted in 2015. Each topic is firmly rooted in the Sustainable Development Goals set by the United Nations, which we continually reference in our report. While we believe we have made great strides in managing our impact in 2021, we are even more excited about what we will be able to report in the future.  A new materiality study will be conducted in 2022 with all our key stakeholders, which will allow us to build upon Guayakí’s progress in the areas covered in this report.

We made some updates in 2021 from our prior 2020 Impact Report. Most significantly, we decided to broadly capture our impact objectives within our integrated company with operations in both North and South America. As a result, we simplified our pillars to include: (1) Environment, (2) Our People, and (3) Community. This is a change from our previous 4-pillar approach, but we believe it will better enable us to capture our goals and objectives in the coming years.

Environment: We take responsibility for our footprint and support the regeneration of priority ecosystems we source from.

Our People: We support the well-being of our people and strive to make Guayakí an engaging, diverse, and inclusive place to work.

Community: We support the human rights of the producers we source from, communities where we work and the customers who sustain us.

We also updated a few of our targets to best achieve our commitment to be a regenerative business. We are committed to stewarding and restoring acreage of South American Atlantic Rainforest and to protecting and preserving high quality yerba mate origin sources and lands in South America. Rather than continuing to set a target of regenerating two million acres of the Atlantic Forest, we are evolving to align our measurement of impact in the Atlantic Forest through improved measurement of our own footprint as well as partnering with third party certification standards including Regenerative Organic Certified™, B Corporation and Fair for Life to scale our approach. We remain committed to pursuing regeneration of the Atlantic Forest and continue to closely partner with the Indigenous and smallholder communities that live and work there. Finally, we also updated the impact objectives within the Community section to better reflect the social climate and a GRI-aligned focus on human rights.
